Lesson Plan – Spanish I

Topic: El árbol genealógico                           

Objective: At the end of the lesson students will be able to:

1. Clearly understand the relationships of the family members in the family tree.

2. Use basic functions of a computer to accomplish the first objective.

3. Produce 2 print outs, to work with them in class and afterwards.

Procedures and Activities:

In Classroom:

1.) The concepts of family members (abuelo/a, papá/mamá, tío/a, hermano/a, primo/a and hijo/a) and their relationship in the family tree, will be previously presented and discussed in classroom.

Pictures, Posters, Transparencies and Handouts.

2.) Before going to the computer lab, students will be exposed to basic keyboarding functions: enter, spacebar, backspace and arrow keys.

3.) In class also they will become familiar with the main components of a computer: Monitor, CPU, Keyboard and Mouse.

In Computer lab:

1.) Students are to be seated immediately upon entering the Lab. They will look to the front board and follow directions of the teacher.

2.) They will spend an appropriate amount of time becoming familiar with logging in procedures and using the mouse to pointing and clicking.

3.) They will point and click on a link selected by the teacher.

4.)They will download their favorite cartoon image to their screen and print it out.

In Computer lab:

1.) Teacher will interact with the students about their images and the topic, for example: How old is this person? Is male or female? Could be abuelo or abuela? Could be papá or mamá ? and so on.

2.) Teacher will present the main screen of this lesson and will introduce the students to the lesson 1 activity sheet 1.

3) Students will print out this worksheet and will follow directions on the screen.

4.) When done with their first worksheet they will print out the second one.

5).They will log off and shutdown the computer in a safe and appropriate manner.

6.) They will keep their print out in a portfolio.

After Computer lab activities:

1.) Students will use the back side of their print outs for several activities: they will draw and color pictures of family members and write their names in Spanish.

2.) Students will cut and paste on 3x5 index cards, the pictures and their names on the front of the card, and on the back side, the relationship of each family member.

3.) Students will play games and participate in several kinds of contests with their family member's card: for example Bingo, Cinco, Jeopardy, Papas v/s Mamas, Hermanos v/s Hermanas.

4.) After the family names and the relationship with the family tree are well know by the students, they will be ready for the next computer lab session: “La Casa” were they live
